Sewerage scheme for Navelim and its surrounding regions in Salcete Taluka – Goa.
I) Need of sewerage Treatment Plant:
1) Unsafe disposal of sewage into the river Sal and Saipem Lake thus contaminating water bodies further in the near by areas.
2) The area being close to Margao city has high housing demand which would generate problems of disposal of sewage.
3) The area has great tourism potential hence situation in tourist season would be bad due to high extraction levels of water and more generation of waste.
4) The population trend displays steep increase in population in last 10 years specially in Navelim area which would worsen the sewage disposal situation if the trend continues.
5) The area is having 24 hours of water supply hence the per capita use of water is also maximum so there is need of upgradation from soak pit system to underground drainage system which would efficiently dispose the sewage water generated.
6) Water borne diseases are prevalent in the area due to contamination of water supply lines.

5) Proposed Sewerage scheme: 4 Sewage collection zones proposed.
Sewerage Zones
IV) Location of STP in the area under project consideration:
The topography of the project area is mountainous region on the east side, plateau region in between and low lands area in the west side. Thus the area is mixture of mountains, plateau and low lands. Apart from the topography the location of STP depends on location of discharge point of the treated sewerage from the intake of water works, the other utilities like land available, power supply conditions, roads and communication means etc. was considered to locate the sewage treatment plant.
The plant is proposed to be located at Navelim near the Saipem Lake and vicinity of Sal River. The entire project area is divided into four zones to facilitate the collection of the sewerage from the intake of water works. The zones are detailed as below:
1) Zone1: Davorlim,Dicarpale,Ramdamol,Aquem and Navelim (Part)
2) Zone2: Talaulim (part) and Navelim (part)
3) Zone3: Dicarpale
