Sewerage Scheme for Ponda Municipal area including Curti, Bandora, Kavelem and other Urban agglomerates in Ponda Taluka – Goa.
I) Need of sewerage Treatment Plant:
1) Unsafe disposal of sewage into the river Zuari thus contaminating water bodies further in the near by areas.
2) The area has high housing demand which has generated problems of disposal of sewage.
3) The area has great tourism potential hence situation in tourist season would be bad due to high extraction levels of water and more generation of waste.
4) The area is having 24 hours of water supply hence the per capita use of water is also maximum so there is need of upgradation from soak pit system to underground drainage system which would efficiently dispose the sewage water generated.
5) Water borne diseases are prevalent in the area due to contamination.
6) The project area depends on the inland water bodies from the ZuariRiver for occupational activities like farming, fishing and tourism.
7) The fertility of land deteriorates due to improper disposal of waste water.
8) The artificial ponds created for facilitating fishing activities have getting polluted due to disposal of raw sewage into the nallah which passes through the entire area.

Sewerage Treatment Plant of Capacity 15 MLD of SBR/ Cyclic ASP.
Total Cost of the Scheme is 403 Crores.
Peak Factor: 2.25
Main Pumping Station at STP of 8 m diameter.
IV) Location of STP in the area under project consideration:
The topography of the project area is mountainous region with depressions at certain points covering forest area. The area is close to River Zuari and is low lying near the river Thus the area is mixture of mountains and low lying sea river side lands. Apart from the topography the location of STP depends on location of discharge point of the treated sewerage from the intake of water works, the other utilities like land available, power supply conditions, roads and communication means etc. was considered to locate the sewage treatment plant.
The plant is proposed to be located at Bandivde in the Madkaim Constituency close to Madkai Industrial Estate and vicinity of ZuariRiver. The entire project area is divided into 10 districts to facilitate the collection of the sewerage from the intake of water works.
